This feature allows you to smooth areas of your 3D design so that you can: remove blemishes from a scanned 3D model; smooth adjoining areas of multiple pieces of relief clipart or soften sharp edges or corners, for example. This can be particularly useful if you design dies for foil stamping or embossing as you can prevent the die from ripping the material.

To smooth your 3D design you can either smooth the entire model or using the vector artwork, fill the vector with a colour. This allows you to limit your sculpting to include or exclude that colour. Additionally, like any traditional sculpting tool, you can vary how much material you sculpt by altering the diameter and shape of the tool used as well as how much pressure is applied.

If you need to maintain a specific height or depth to your 3D relief (for example, so you do not remove or add more material than the size of your material block), you can also choose to limit your sculpting so that it keeps to your original model dimensions.

Erase Tool

The erase tool is an extremely powerful digital sculpting tool with two functions – it allows you to sculpt areas down flat but more powerfully, if you make a mistake, the erase tool allows you to sculpt back to a previous point in time. 

This means for example, that you could smooth an area and erase a small portion back to its original state. By varying the pressure you apply to the design, you can also determine how much of your smoothing you remove.
